· What is an emergency fund?
An emergency fund is a readily accessible cash buffer for unexpected shocks (job loss, income disruption, medical bills, urgent family events). Its job is not to maximize returns—its job is to preserve decision quality under stress. -
· How to define “monthly expenses”?
Use essential expenses (must-pay bills). Including full lifestyle spending may inflate the target and reduce follow-through. -
How the recommended months work here
We start with a base month count (e.g., 6 months) and adjust using three drivers: income stability, dependents/obligations, and safety-net coverage. -
· Why three ranges?
保守(Conservative):更容易达成,适合刚起步、先建立安全感;
标准(Standard):一般建议优先达到这个档位;
Emergency funds are about risk tolerance. A range helps you choose a target that’s both safe and achievable. -
· Where to park the fund?
Priority order: safety & liquidity first, yield second. Prefer cash-like instruments you can access quickly. -
Common mistakes
• Treating volatile assets as emergency money (you may be forced to sell at the worst time).
• Ignoring fixed bills and obligations. Build it systematically via monthly automation.
